Matchbox with Malachite

Matchbox made of lead-free brass from Gusums Messing with a genuine malachite stone inset (approximately 38 mm x 28 mm x 6 mm).

The dimensions of the box are 7 cm (length), 5.5 cm (width), 1.8 cm (height). The material of the box is brass with a malachite stone.

This matchbox is a collaboration with brass foundries and gemstone cutters. The production process is entirely artisanal and can be best described as goldsmithing. The majority of the cost comes from the malachite stone, classified as a semi-precious gemstone. The matchbox is designed by Fredrik Strömblad and is also available in pewter and other stones.

Malachite's History

Malachite had its heyday during the empire period when it was very popular in Russia. Today, items made of malachite command astronomical sums.

Malachite is a green copper-containing mineral that can be seen as a mixture of copper carbonate and copper hydroxide.

The name ultimately comes from Greek and is said to come from the mineral's resemblance to the leaves of the mallow plant.

Like many other stones, malachite is attributed with magical powers.

Malachite is a powerful stone, helping to neutralize harmful energies. It is called the "soul's mirror" as it shows both the negative and positive aspects of ourselves. Malachite channels spiritual energies down to Earth, and some believe that the stone will play an important role as the Earth's energies increase in frequency. It is recommended to have a good knowledge of crystals and their usage when working with malachite, and to be aware of its powerful abilities.
