Sundial in antiqued brass, Ø 45 cm
A genuine sundial made entirely of solid, antiqued brass – created in the same spirit as the classic sundials of yesteryear. Every detail reflects the timeless elegance and precision of older craftsmanship.
During the 17th century, the sundial took on a new meaning – no longer just as a timekeeper, but as an ornament and status symbol in the artistic design of the garden.
When mechanical clocks took over practical timekeeping, the sundial instead became a symbolic piece of jewelry for learning, order, and beauty .
In the Baroque castle and manor gardens, sundials were placed on pillars, in stone balustrades or in the middle of parterres, often made of brass, bronze or carved stone .
They reminded the viewer of the flight of time – “tempus fugit” – and stood as a work of art in the service of time, where astronomy, craftsmanship and garden aesthetics were united in perfect harmony.
