How to Install a Fountain Pump and Make It Work Perfectly

Installing a fountain pump may seem challenging at first, but with the right equipment and a few simple steps, it’s surprisingly easy—especially if you’ve chosen both the pump and the fountain from Mr Fredrik. Most of our fountains can be set up in just a few minutes. Selecting a suitable bowl or basin for your fountain and positioning the sculpture might take a bit longer. For added stability and to conceal the pump, we recommend using river stones whenever possible.

Choosing a Bowl

When selecting a basin for your sculpture, avoid wooden materials like oak barrels, as the tannins in the wood can discolor the sculpture. Instead, check out the specially designed bowls we offer for our frog fountains.

For Wall Fountains or Special Arrangements

If your setup involves a wall fountain or requires a longer hose than the one provided, please email us with details of your plan. Include the distance between the pump and the sculpture, and specify whether the hose will be positioned horizontally or vertically.

Step-by-Step Installation of Your Pump

  1. Attach the Hose

    • Securely connect the hose to the pump.
  2. Place the Pump in Water

    • Submerge the pump fully in the water.
  3. Plug in the Pump

    • Connect the pump to the power outlet. Ensure the pump is underwater before turning it on to avoid running it dry, which can damage the motor.
  4. Remove Air from the Pump

    • If the flow is weak, there may be air trapped in the pump. Let the pump run submerged in water without connecting it to the sculpture for about 15 seconds. Once the air is expelled, reconnect the sculpture while keeping the pump underwater.
  5. Adjust the Pump’s Flow Control

    • For maximum flow, move the small lever on the pump closest to the outlet where water is ejected.
  6. Attach the Hose to the Fountain

    • Secure the hose to the fountain sculpture.
  7. Ensure the Pump is Submerged

    • Always check that the pump remains underwater before turning it on.
  8. Start the Pump and Adjust

    • Turn on the pump and adjust the angle of the sculpture to achieve the desired spray effect. For frogs, tilting them at a 45-degree angle often creates the best stream.

For Pumps with LED Lights

If your pump includes LED lighting, ensure the connection between the LED component and the pump is tightly sealed for proper function.

By following these steps, your fountain will be up and running smoothly, adding charm and tranquility to your space.
